NBC and NTC are the two certificates NABTEB awards at O’level. The NBC (National Business Certificate) covers business trades like Book-Keeping and Secretarial Duties; the NTC (National Technical Certificate) covers technical trades like Electrical Installation and Motor Vehicle Mechanics. Both carry the same weight as a WAEC or NECO SSCE result.

Both count as O’level
JAMB accepts NBC and NTC results for UTME registration the same way it accepts WAEC and NECO. Universities and polytechnics admit with them, provided you hold the credit passes your course requires — usually five credits including English Language and Mathematics. Every NABTEB combination includes those general education subjects, so a good sitting covers the requirement in one exam.
One caution on the advanced certificates: NABTEB also runs A-level equivalents (ANBC/ANTC), but JAMB has stopped accepting them for direct entry admission. Treat NBC/NTC as your O’level and UTME as your route into university.
How to choose
- Pick NTC if you want a hands-on trade you can practise immediately — electrical work, plumbing, auto repairs, catering equipment maintenance. The practical component is the point: you graduate already able to work.
- Pick NBC if your path is office and commerce — accounts clerking, sales, administration — or you plan to study business courses.
- Either way, check your trade’s full subject combination on the subject list before registering, and see the grading system for what counts as a credit.
